La famille d’un Montréalais œuvrant en cryptomonnaie a été ciblée par quatre tentatives de violations de domicile en quelques semaines cet hiver, dont une où un coup de feu a été tiré et qui a récemment mené à deux arrestations.

« C’est un crime crapuleux et violent », s’indigne Pierre-Marc Houle, commandant de la Section des enquêtes par projet Sud du Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Le corps de police a annoncé jeudi l’arrestation dans la région de Toronto d’un mineur de 17 ans et de Christopher Ethan Prince, 20 ans, en lien avec une violation de domicile survenue le 28 janvier dernier, dans l’arrondissement du Sud-Ouest.

Ce jour-là, un entrepreneur du domaine de la cryptomonnaie se trouvait dans sa maison avec sa conjointe et ses quatre enfants, dont trois sont en bas âge. Un professeur de musique privé se trouvait aussi dans la résidence.

Vers 19 h 30, un individu prétendant être un livreur de colis s’est présenté à la résidence familiale. Lorsqu’un occupant a ouvert la porte, lui et trois complices seraient entrés.

« Quand la victime [l’entrepreneur en cryptomonnaie] est descendue du deuxième étage, c’est là qu’elle a été confrontée avec les suspects. L’un d’entre eux aurait fait feu et c’est un autre suspect qui aurait été atteint à l’abdomen », a indiqué M. Houle.

Le père de famille n’a heureusement subi qu’une légère blessure du bras, qui n’a pas été causée par le coup de feu.

Les bandits ont ensuite pris la fuite en laissant plusieurs « éléments de preuves » sur les lieux, selon le SPVM.

Les suspects, originaires de la région de Toronto, ne se connaissaient pas tous. Ils auraient accepté un contrat via les réseaux sociaux qui ciblait cet homme en lien avec la cryptomonnaie, a précisé le commandant Houle.

La famille n’était toutefois pas au bout de ses peines. Début mars, des suspects ont fait trois nouvelles tentatives de violation de domicile en autant de jours à la même résidence.

« Ça n’a pas fonctionné, mais c’est très inquiétant. Il y a eu des moyens de protection déployés [sur la maison] et les suspects ont été aperçus. Ils ne sont pas rentrés dans la maison », fait savoir le commandant Houle.

Le 11 mars, la famille a décidé de quitter les lieux pour des raisons de sécurité.

« On se met à la place des victimes qui sont carrément traumatisées. Ce sont ces gens sans histoire », déplore M. Houle.

Au cours des dernières années, plusieurs crimes similaires en lien avec la cryptomonnaie sont survenus dans le grand Montréal. Dans la plupart des cas, l’objectif est de dérober des fonds sur place en obtenant un transfert pouvant atteindre des centaines de milliers de dollars.

L’enquête sur l’événement du 28 janvier se poursuit afin de retrouver deux autres suspects, dont un âgé de 16 ans. D’autres individus pourraient aussi être traqués par le SPVM en lien avec les tentatives de début mars, précise le commandant Houle.

Christopher Ethan Prince a comparu par visioconférence au palais de justice de Montréal et le mineur de 17 ans a comparu par visioconférence à la Chambre de la jeunesse de la Cour du Québec. Dans le cadre de cette opération, le Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) a eu l’aide du Service de police de Toronto et le Service de police régional de Durham.

Voici ce qui s’est produit dans cette affaire. Le 28 janvier dernier, vers 19h30, un individu se serait présenté à une résidence, située dans le Sud-Ouest, en prétendant effectuer la livraison d’un colis.

Selon la police, lorsque les résidents auraient ouvert la porte, il aurait pénétré à l’intérieur du domicile avec trois complices. Deux d’entre eux auraient été armés d’armes à feu.

Durant l’événement, l’un des suspects armés aurait tiré un coup de feu, blessant un de ses complices à l’abdomen et blessant légèrement le résident au bras. Par la suite, ils auraient pris la fuite, abandonnant plusieurs éléments de preuve sur les lieux, a rapporté le SPVM.

Prince et la personne mineure font face à plusieurs chefs d’accusation en lien avec ce dossier, notamment introduction par effraction, braquage d’arme à feu et décharge d’une arme à feu avec insouciance.

Les suspects demeurent détenus et seront transférés à Montréal dans les prochains jours pour comparaître en personne, mais le SPVM cherche toujours deux autres suspects, dont un âgé de 16 et visé par un mandat d’arrestation pancanadien.
