In Kyiv, a group that kidnapped a cryptocurrency miner and took $50,000 from him was detained

Employees of the Kyiv prosecutor’s office and the national police detained robbers who, in March of this year, kidnapped a Kyiv resident—a cryptocurrency miner—to demand a ransom, the Kyiv prosecutor’s office press service reported.

The crime occurred in the Podilsky district of the city. The criminals waited for the victim near his home, put a sack over his head, forcibly pushed him into a car, and took him outside the city. They threatened to kill him and thereby obtained the keys to his apartment, as well as information about where he kept his money.

After taking $50,000 from the victim, they drove him to Brovary and released him.

Law enforcement identified the criminals as two brothers, born in 1988 and 1984. They are currently charged with robbery by prior conspiracy, aimed at seizing property on a particularly large scale, under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A petition has been sent to the Podilsky Court of Kyiv to place them in custody. They face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Recall that at the end of November this year, Bitcoin fell below $5,000 for the first time in a year.
