Abre a porta! Abre a porta, malandro, vai! Nós vai arrombar a porta! Abre a porta!”

Two men posed as civil police officers in order to get into a hotel and kidnap an 18-year-old influencer. According to the investigation, the pair took around R$750,000 in cryptocurrency from the victim.

The operation was filmed by a hotel employee, at the urging of the suspects themselves, who were trying to lend the fake arrest an air of legitimacy.

The case resembles another that took place in March in France, when criminals posed as police officers to steal R$5.4 million in Bitcoin from a couple in their own home.

Images show moments from the suspects' operation

According to reporting by Cidade Alerta, the case took place at a hotel in Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, on 3 July, after the influencer travelled to the city to spend a romantic weekend with his girlfriend.

The video below, filmed by a hotel employee, shows the moment of the suspects' operation, wearing Civil Police clothing.

"Civil Police! Open the door! Open the door, you crook, go on! We are going to break the door down! Open the door!"

In one section it is even possible to see a piece of paper that was presented as an arrest warrant. "You will see the arrest warrant at the police station, when you get it with your lawyer, all right, handsome?" said one suspect when asked the reason for the arrest.

After handcuffing the victim, the pair went down in the lift, put the influencer in the back seat of an ordinary car with no police markings, and left the scene.

"An officer is going to come down to take a look at the room. You can leave it as it is. Do not touch anything, because there is probably going to be something else in there. As you saw, he has already got rid of his phone, he already threw it in the water."

One of the suspects was arrested the same day, the other remains at large

According to police inquiries, the criminals had been following the victim's routine through his social media, and so knew that he invested in cryptocurrency.

During the operation, the suspects are alleged to have stolen R$750,000 in cryptocurrency before releasing the influencer.

Because of the footage above, which shows the suspects' faces and the number plate of the car used, the Military Police were able to stop the vehicle in question on the Anhanguera highway.

"During the stop, two sets of handcuffs were found and a firearm case in the boot, but empty. The individual said the gun was under the seat. During the stop, realising they were going to be detained, they ended up resisting. The driver of the Nivus fled in the Nivus after trying to take the highway officer's gun," said chief inspector Robson Goncalves to Cidade Alerta.

One of the suspects exchanged gunfire with police in Pirassununga but managed to escape. The second fled on foot into wooded terrain, but was captured later.

Finally, Goncalves says the second suspect called an Uber to pick him up, but thanks to facial recognition they were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the man identified as Matheus Vinicius de Jesus dos Santos.
