Seattle police arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday for burglary, two counts of assault and criminal impersonation. The man posed as a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) carrier and attacked homeowners in Phinney Ridge neighborhood.

|
||||
On Feb. 20th at 2:16 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 300 block of North 74th Street. While officers were enroute, dispatch updated the mail carrier was attacking the homeowner.
|
||||
|
||||
Officers arrived and witnesses flagged them down. They entered the residence and found 52-year-old and the 31-year-old suspect struggling. The victim’s 50-year-old wife was standing over them in distress.

||||
|
||||
Officers separated both men and handcuffed the suspect. When officers asked the suspect if he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, he didn’t answer. He eventually said “lawyer”.

||||
|
||||
The suspect wore a USPS uniform and carried a branded satchel. Officers noticed Tyvek style coveralls under his uniform.

||||
|
||||
Police learned the victim answered the door after the doorbell rang. The suspect stood in the doorway with a piece of mail. He told the victim to open it in front of him. The victim thought that it was strange but opened the mail. The letter demanded an amount of cryptocurrency. The suspect then forced his way inside, assaulted the victim and his wife.

Seattle Fire Department arrived and evaluated all parties. Medics transported the victim via AMR to the hospital for complaints of chest pain.

||||
|
||||
Officers searched the suspect’s postal bag after the arrest. They found electronic equipment, tape, plastic bags, large zip ties, tasers, tourniquet, cellphone, lint roller, an electronic signal blocking pouch, black beanie, face mask, dark sunglasses, and a box of plastic gloves. The suspect did not have any identification showing he worked for the USPS.

Homicide and Assault Unit detectives will be leading the investigation.

||||
|
||||
Officers transported and booking the suspect into King County Jail for investigation of burglary, two counts of assault and criminal impersonation.

||||

A man who allegedly posed as a postal worker and assaulted a Phinney Ridge couple, demanding cryptocurrency, has been charged.

||||
Ian Blair, a 31-year-old from Auburn, was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree assault, and extortion and criminal impersonation, according to The Seattle Times.

Last Friday, Blair rang the doorbell of a home near North 74th Street and Greenwood Avenue North, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) reported.

||||
|
||||
When a 52-year-old resident answered, Blair allegedly held out a piece of mail and told the man to open it in front of him. The letter reportedly demanded cryptocurrency.

||||
|
||||
According to The Seattle Times, the man was allegedly trying to coerce the Seattle resident into giving him 10 bitcoins in exchange for information related to a civil suit the resident is involved in.
|
||||
|
||||
Blair then reportedly forced his way into the home and assaulted the man and his wife, police said.
|
||||
|
||||
Law enforcement responded at 2:16 p.m.
|
||||
|
||||

SEATTLE — A man police say was disguised as a U.S. Postal Service worker attacked a Phinney Ridge couple and demanded cryptocurrency before officers arrested him last Friday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North 74th Street shortly after 2:16 p.m. on Feb. 20 for a report of an assault in progress. As they headed to the home, dispatchers updated them that a person described as a mail carrier was attacking the homeowner.

||||
|
||||
When officers arrived, witnesses flagged them down and led them into the house, where they found a 52-year-old resident struggling with the 31-year-old suspect. The victim’s 50-year-old wife was nearby, visibly upset. Officers separated the men and handcuffed the suspect.

||||
|
||||
The suspect wore a USPS-style uniform with Tyvek-style coveralls underneath. He carried a branded mail satchel, but refused to answer when officers asked if he worked for the postal service. He eventually said, “lawyer.”
|
||||
|
||||
Inside the satchel, police found a variety of items, including electronic equipment, tape, zip ties, a taser, tourniquet, cell phone, black beanie, face mask, lint roller, dark sunglasses, an electronic signal-blocking pouch, and gloves.

|
||||
According to police, the victim answered the doorbell and saw the suspect holding a piece of mail. The suspect told the victim to open the letter in front of him, which the victim thought was unusual, but opened the mail. After the victim opened the letter, which demanded an amount of cryptocurrency, the suspect forced his way inside and attacked the victim and his wife.

Seattle Fire Department medics evaluated everyone who was involved at the scene, and one victim was taken to a hospital for chest pain.

||||
|
||||
The suspect was booked into the King County jail on suspicion of burglary, two counts of assault, and criminal impersonation. Homicide and assault unit detectives are leading the ongoing investigation.
