Assailants of Israeli tourists stole around $700,000 in bitcoin

Eleven Israeli nationals were at a social event when they were violently approached by a group of at least eight individuals.

The attackers targeted a group of Israelis at Santa Teresa beach in Cóbano, Puntarenas, and reportedly succeeded in stealing about $700,000 worth of bitcoin.

Eleven Israelis were engaged in a social gathering when at least eight men arrived in two luxury vehicles and violently confronted them (see attached video by Telenoticias).

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) believes those who attacked the Israeli tourist group may have police training.

It is unclear whether all Israelis live in Costa Rica or were just visiting, but they were gagged and forced to hand over their belongings.

Telenoticias confirmed they managed to steal at least $700,000 in bitcoin, leading to suspicions that someone close to the victims knew about their financial movements.

Security camera footage shows several of the criminals moving the victims from place to place, wearing what appear to be police uniforms and shirts.
