Kidnappers Threaten to Blind Bitcoin Trader in Kaunas
This summer, a shocking incident occurred in Kaunas when a man was forcefully pushed into a minibus. This was not a drunken prank but an attempt to unlawfully deprive someone of their freedom. The victim was 29-year-old Kaunas resident Tadas Kasputis. According to unverified reports, Kaunas residents E. J., R. G., M. Š., and Š. P. used physical force on July 11 near an automobile service station on Kaunakiemio Street in Kaunas. They pushed the victim into a "Ford Transit" van, tied his hands, drove him a short distance, and transferred him to another vehicle. There, they covered his eyes with a cap and drove around the Kaunas area until morning.
It is suspected that the kidnappers forced T. Kasputis to transfer 52 bitcoins (104,000 euros), but when they failed to obtain the login details, they demanded 300,000 euros. They allegedly threatened to blind their victim, harm his children, or destroy his property—burn his car.
The suspects took a safe containing a mobile phone, computer, cash, various documents, and payment cards. They also seized a wristwatch worth 10,000 euros and a similar gold bracelet. The total damage amounts to nearly 27,000 euros.
The court, considering that E. J., R. G., and M. Š. have been previously convicted and some have connections abroad, where they might flee or hide, imposed a one-month detention period on them. Š. P. was given a shorter detention period of 15 days, taking into account the extent of the charges against him, the current results of the pre-trial investigation, and the fact that this suspect has a family, a job, and a permanent residence. Due to these reasons, a shorter detention period was imposed than requested by the prosecutor.
These decisions can be appealed to the Kaunas Regional Court within 20 days.
The 33 and 29-year-old suspects were detained on Laisvės Avenue. These men, who have been convicted of various crimes multiple times, live in Kaunas. Another accomplice was detained on Šauklių Street. A 43-year-old man, who has also faced the wrath of Themis—convicted in other EU countries—was the oldest, 50-year-old, representative of the gang, detained near his home in Garliava. The detention operation lasted several hours.
Charges include unlawful deprivation of liberty, property extortion, theft, and manipulations with electronic payment instruments. They face up to ten years of imprisonment.

Called a Bitcoin Scammer
In the database of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which coordinates the international investigation into the leaked documents of the Panamanian company "Mossack Fonseca," you can find Kaunas resident T. Kasputis. He is one of the owners of the company "Kaduceo LLP" registered in the United Kingdom. Incidentally, these confirming data are public and accessible in the British register even without the "Mossack Fonseca" documents.
T. Kasputis is titled a "bitcoin scammer" in specialized media. The portal siliconangle.com reports that the Kaunas resident is associated with not one affair involving virtual currency. The Lithuanian is linked to not one collapsed bitcoin trading system, allegedly appropriating the funds of its clients. The portal claims that T. Kasputis and his partners may have embezzled millions of dollars.
15min.lt managed to contact T. Kasputis. He confirmed being the person featured on siliconangle.com but stated that the portal is blackmailing him. "They are blackmailing me directly. That article is full of lies. If you noticed, similar articles no longer appear on other portals," he said.
The entrepreneur insists he is not involved in any of the affairs described by siliconangle.com. "Someone must have it in for me," he mused. "It would be great if that were true. I would be a millionaire," he added.
Kasputis also confirmed that he and his partners established "Kaduceo LLP" through "Mossack Fonseca." However, according to the entrepreneur, the company did not conduct any real activities. "It did not conduct any activities. A colleague registered it, and that's all," he said. Kasputis declined to reveal what activities "Kaduceo LLP" was supposed to engage in.
