AI SUMMARY [revised on review, verified against the sources in this file. Live DB still holds the shorter bulk-import summary — apply this to it.]
**Victims:** A retired schoolteacher in Recife, Brazil — the mother of a man who works in cryptocurrency management and lives in Portugal. (The DB victim field labels this case for the son; the person actually kidnapped was his mother.)
**Attackers:** A gang with at least two men in the car; four people were later arrested, including two women alleged to have received part of the ransom in crypto. They used a vehicle with a cloned licence plate and were charged with extortion through kidnapping and money laundering.
**Attack Method:** The gang monitored the son's social media daily, judged the family wealthy, and mapped the mother's home and routines. On 21 March 2025 they followed her to the Forum Desembargador Benildes de Souza Ribeiro courthouse in Imbiribeira and seized her as she left, taking her to Olinda.
**Violence Used:** She was held captive for more than 12 hours at gunpoint.
**Crypto Demanded/Stolen:** Her son was forced to pay five bitcoins, worth about R$3.3 million at the time.
**Status:** She was released near the Ouro Preto neighbourhood in Olinda. All four arrest and home-search warrants were served — two suspects arrested in Abreu e Lima and Olinda and two in Extremoz (RN).

The four criminals are charged with extortion through kidnapping and money laundering. According to the delegate Jorge Pinto, responsible for the investigation, the kidnapped woman is the mother of a man who works in cryptocurrency management.
"The criminals who started to monitor the social networks of this crypto trader daily and believed that it would be a wealthy person, who would have large financial volume to move. This victim was persecuted, they were able to identify the addresses she frequented, the house, daily chores" said the delegate.
The kidnapping took place on March 21, 2025, when the woman went to the Forum Desembargador Benildes de Souza Ribeiro, in Imbiribeira, in the South Zone of Recife.
"[The group] would have waited for this victim to leave the house and proceeded to pursue her to the premises of the Special Court. One of the authors would have entered soon after the victim's entry into the court. They waited for the moment when she would leave the dependencies of the Judiciary to be able to snatch her" said the delegate Jorge Pinto.
There were at least two men in the car. The woman was taken to Olinda and held captive for more than 12 hours at gunpoint. Her son, who lives in Portugal, was forced to pay five bitcoins, which, at the time, amounted to R $ 3.3 million.
"She was released in the vicinity of the Ouro Preto neighborhood in Olinda, and then began investigative activities by the Special Operations Group. Of the four temporary arrest warrants issued, all were served, as were the home search warrants. Four were dispatched, and we were able to comply with all four" said the delegate.
Two of the criminals were arrested in Abreu and Lima and Olinda, in Greater Recife, and two others, in the municipality of Extremoz (RN). Among the targets are two women.
"What we can say, in order not to harm the investigations, is that the women who were arrested would have received part of the ransom payment in crypto assets, making it difficult not only to trace, but also to identify the origin and value that were deposited. So we firmly believe in the criminal accountability of these people" he concluded.
