Second and third rounds on the dossier pipeline, reviewed locally before commit. Retrieval - wayback_pass.py: retries every BLOCKED/DEAD/THIN/ERROR linked source through the Wayback Machine; blocks carry the snapshot date, archive URL and the live verdict. 143 slots retried: 93 fetched, 37 no snapshot, 12 script shells, 1 PDF. - fetch_sources.py: fetch_wayback() helper. - add_extra_sources.py: files staged extra_* finds (web search, not on the DB record) into the store with a provenance note. - Cases re-sourced by web search: 248 (Oslo: Document.no, Avisa Oslo, NRK; the linked Le Parisien piece is case 242 and is marked OFF-CASE), 258 Kharkiv, 260 Singapore, 358 Bangkok, 365 Las Vegas, 388 Verneuil-sur-Seine, 390 Zoersel, 430 Homestead. 341 of 364 cases now hold a fetched article; 11, 66 and 399 have no public text source (podcast, police video, direct victim report). Trimming - auto_trim.py: case-anchored furniture cut for UNTRIMMED blocks. Finds the body run that mentions the case, merges across subheadings and short furniture gaps, drops teasers, share bars, date/URL/caption lines and subscription pitches; refuses pages with no record term or almost no body. 302 blocks trimmed; 16 left on auto-trim-review.md (7 OFF-CASE suspects). Every cut is labelled AUTO-TRIMMED, UNREVIEWED in the dossier; the full extract stays in staging/. Decisions with anchors in trim-decisions-auto.json. - build_cases.py / verify_all.py: banners for auto-trimmed and archived blocks, staged-file check extended to Wayback blocks, flag legend under the record. Detention rule - README "Definitions": the DB field `kidnappings` is the DETENTION violence type (victim, guard, staff or relative held to force submission or execute the theft), distinct from the Kidnapping scenario (taken away and held). - detention-flag-review.md / detention-flag-corrections.json: 40 records reviewed with evidence; 30 set-to-1 proposals accepted by the owner on 2026-09-06 (listed in corrections-approved.md), 10 still open. - apply_detention_wording.py: "Violence Used" in the 70 reviewed summaries now names detention explicitly (62 of 70 labelled), supported by the summary's own text; idempotent; supersedes the batch scripts' wording. Worklist and docs - sofia-worklist.md: 248 decisions, detention rule item replacing the old "no abduction" item, fresh-search section for the textless cases. - README-START-HERE.md: progress notes, run commands, next steps. - Bug fixed in passing: Wayback blocks stored in-memory text with carriage returns; now stored as read back from disk. verify_all.py PASSES (2321 checks). Bitcoin bandits target Dallas County cryptocurrency ATMs
Dallas is a startup for bitcoin ATMs where the cryptocurrency can be bought with cash or exchanged for cash.
In late March, two bitcoin ATMs were ravaged by robbers who used high-powered pepper spray known as bear spray to overpower clerks and rob the machines.
Bitcoin is still relatively new and has only been around for about a decade. The new technology has created new thievery. Police in Irving and Mesquite are now looking for the bitcoin bandits.
A bitcoin ATM at a Mesquite gas station was targeted on March 28. Video shows a man buying Gatorade at while at the counter who looks right at the camera. He then returns and sprays the female clerk with bear spray. His partner then breaks in the bitcoin ATM.
“Seems like these machines do contain some cash,” explained Mesquite Police Lt. Brian Parrish. “Apparently, there comes a point when you exchange bitcoins for cash.”
Irving saw the first bitcoin robbery on March 22.
“Once the suspects incapacitated the clerk, then they were able to just break into it and steal the cash cassettes,” explained Irving Police Officer James McLellan.
The motive is the same in both bitcoin robberies. In the Irving case, a heavyset guy in a gray hoodie goes in and sprays the clerk. A thin man in a Raiders hat then hands him a crowbar and goes to work on the ATM machine.
“It’s one thing to steal or rob from someone,” Parrish said. “It’s another to hurt a defenseless clerk.”
Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for the names of the bitcoin bandits. Anyone with information is urged to contact Mesquite or Irving PD.

Robbers douse clerks with pepper spray, steal from Bitcoin ATMs in Irving and Mesquite
Surveillance footage captured incidents at a Chevron in Irving and an Exxon in Mesquite.
A pair of robbers remain at large after breaking into a Bitcoin ATM at an Irving gas station and spraying a clerk with bear deterrent.
Less than a week later, a similar robbery took place at a gas station in Mesquite.
The first robbery happened around 10 p.m. March 22 at the Chevron in the 7200 block of North MacArthur Boulevard, at State Highway 161.
Surveillance footage shows a man in a hoodie walk in and spray the clerk with bear deterrent — a type of pepper spray stronger than what's sold for self-defense against humans.
A second man follows and hands a crowbar to the first robber, who pries open the ATM. The accomplice stands guard near the register while the clerk wipes his eyes.
The pair then leave the store with cash containers from the ATM and speed off in a gray or silver SUV. Police did not disclose how much money was stolen.
Police described the robbers as black men in their late 20s to early 30s.
The first was about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, and was wearing a gray and black Nike hoodie, blue jeans and black and white sneakers.
The second was about about 6 feet tall and 140 to 160 pounds, and was wearing a black jacket, sagging jeans over blue underwear, maroon sneakers, blue gloves and a gray Oakland Raiders cap.
Six days later, a similar robbery took place at the Exxon in the 2200 block of Oates Drive, near North Galloway Avenue in Mesquite.
Around 11:30 a.m., a man wearing a gray hoodie and a red Nike cap sprayed the clerk with pepper spray. A second person then broke into the store's Bitcoin ATM.
The pair then fled in a vehicle, police said.
