Second and third rounds on the dossier pipeline, reviewed locally before commit. Retrieval - wayback_pass.py: retries every BLOCKED/DEAD/THIN/ERROR linked source through the Wayback Machine; blocks carry the snapshot date, archive URL and the live verdict. 143 slots retried: 93 fetched, 37 no snapshot, 12 script shells, 1 PDF. - fetch_sources.py: fetch_wayback() helper. - add_extra_sources.py: files staged extra_* finds (web search, not on the DB record) into the store with a provenance note. - Cases re-sourced by web search: 248 (Oslo: Document.no, Avisa Oslo, NRK; the linked Le Parisien piece is case 242 and is marked OFF-CASE), 258 Kharkiv, 260 Singapore, 358 Bangkok, 365 Las Vegas, 388 Verneuil-sur-Seine, 390 Zoersel, 430 Homestead. 341 of 364 cases now hold a fetched article; 11, 66 and 399 have no public text source (podcast, police video, direct victim report). Trimming - auto_trim.py: case-anchored furniture cut for UNTRIMMED blocks. Finds the body run that mentions the case, merges across subheadings and short furniture gaps, drops teasers, share bars, date/URL/caption lines and subscription pitches; refuses pages with no record term or almost no body. 302 blocks trimmed; 16 left on auto-trim-review.md (7 OFF-CASE suspects). Every cut is labelled AUTO-TRIMMED, UNREVIEWED in the dossier; the full extract stays in staging/. Decisions with anchors in trim-decisions-auto.json. - build_cases.py / verify_all.py: banners for auto-trimmed and archived blocks, staged-file check extended to Wayback blocks, flag legend under the record. Detention rule - README "Definitions": the DB field `kidnappings` is the DETENTION violence type (victim, guard, staff or relative held to force submission or execute the theft), distinct from the Kidnapping scenario (taken away and held). - detention-flag-review.md / detention-flag-corrections.json: 40 records reviewed with evidence; 30 set-to-1 proposals accepted by the owner on 2026-09-06 (listed in corrections-approved.md), 10 still open. - apply_detention_wording.py: "Violence Used" in the 70 reviewed summaries now names detention explicitly (62 of 70 labelled), supported by the summary's own text; idempotent; supersedes the batch scripts' wording. Worklist and docs - sofia-worklist.md: 248 decisions, detention rule item replacing the old "no abduction" item, fresh-search section for the textless cases. - README-START-HERE.md: progress notes, run commands, next steps. - Bug fixed in passing: Wayback blocks stored in-memory text with carriage returns; now stored as read back from disk. verify_all.py PASSES (2321 checks). Kidnapping attempts are on the rise in the world of cryptocurrencies.

The kidnapping for ransom of business leader David Balland is part of a new context. Now, criminals are targeting influencers and those who have made fortunes in cryptocurrencies. This happened two years ago to Owen Simonin, a cryptocurrency influencer followed by hundreds of thousands of people on social media. He recounts his assault to the JT team in the video above: "One day, one of my subscribers, someone who followed me on the internet, simply managed to get the address of my home at the time. And this subscriber simply followed me for a few days to decide to come to my home with a weapon. And at that moment, he simply tried to extort cryptocurrencies from me."

The young man manages to fend off his attacker, who will eventually surrender to the police a few days later. But the traumatic experience has led him to move and strengthen his online security. "People have understood that cryptocurrency is like money, it has value," the influencer explains to us.

Why physically target these cryptocurrency holders? Because to access the money, the attackers need a password. Virtual money is less protected than real currency. There is no bank. And once the password is retrieved, all that's left is to transfer the cryptocurrencies.

"Transactions are much more immediate, we're talking about a matter of a few minutes. They are generally irreversible. Then they will be obscured among dozens and dozens of other transactions, so that the kidnapper's or criminal organization's address can never be identified," explains crypto security expert Rémi d'Alise.

||

||
Talking about money on social media attracts greed. Whether it's about travels, clothes, partnerships with prestigious brands, influencers are the new targets of robbers. "The feeling of being burglarized, of someone coming into your home, into your privacy, into your space, it's scary," explains Inoxtag, recently a victim of a burglary.

Generally, to protect oneself from attackers, it is advised not to give your address on the internet and to avoid leaving clues that could help locate your home.

Désormais, les malfaiteurs s'en prennent aux influenceurs et à ceux qui ont fait fortune dans les cryptomonnaies. C'est arrivé il y a deux ans à Owen Simonin, un influenceur spécialisé en cryptomonnaie suivi par des centaines de milliers de personnes sur les réseaux sociaux. Celui-ci raconte son agression aux équipes du JT dans la vidéo visible ci-dessus : "Un jour, un de mes abonnés, quelqu'un qui me suivait sur Internet, a tout simplement réussi à obtenir l'adresse de mon domicile de l'époque. Et cet abonné m'a tout simplement suivi pendant quelques jours afin de prendre la décision de venir dans mon domicile avec une arme. Et à ce moment-là, a tout simplement essayé de m'extorquer des cryptomonnaies."

Le jeune homme réussit à repousser son agresseur, qui finira par se rendre à la police quelques jours plus tard. Mais l'expérience traumatisante l'a poussé à déménager et à renforcer sa sécurité sur internet. "Les gens ont compris que la cryptomonnaie, c'est comme de l'argent, ça a de la valeur", nous explique l'influenceur.

Qu'il s'agisse de voyages, de vêtements, de partenariats avec des marques prestigieuses, les influenceurs sont les nouvelles cibles des braqueurs. "La sensation de se faire cambrioler, que quelqu'un rentre chez toi, dans ton intimité, dans ton chez-toi, ça fait peur", explique Inoxtag, récemment victime d'un cambriolage (nouvelle fenêtre).
