Second and third rounds on the dossier pipeline, reviewed locally before commit. Retrieval - wayback_pass.py: retries every BLOCKED/DEAD/THIN/ERROR linked source through the Wayback Machine; blocks carry the snapshot date, archive URL and the live verdict. 143 slots retried: 93 fetched, 37 no snapshot, 12 script shells, 1 PDF. - fetch_sources.py: fetch_wayback() helper. - add_extra_sources.py: files staged extra_* finds (web search, not on the DB record) into the store with a provenance note. - Cases re-sourced by web search: 248 (Oslo: Document.no, Avisa Oslo, NRK; the linked Le Parisien piece is case 242 and is marked OFF-CASE), 258 Kharkiv, 260 Singapore, 358 Bangkok, 365 Las Vegas, 388 Verneuil-sur-Seine, 390 Zoersel, 430 Homestead. 341 of 364 cases now hold a fetched article; 11, 66 and 399 have no public text source (podcast, police video, direct victim report). Several individuals reportedly surrounded him, violently overpowered him, and forced him into a vehicle before they disappeared.

Very soon after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the son. They sent him several recordings in which his father appeared successively bound, gagged, then naked and beaten. In these messages, the kidnappers demanded a large sum of money and threatened to escalate the violence if their demands were not met.

Terrified, the young man immediately alerted the authorities. The police promptly opened an investigation for kidnapping and unlawful confinement by an organized group, given the modus operandi and the violence used.
|
|
|
|
Based on initial witness statements and analysis of CCTV footage, investigators were able to reconstruct part of the kidnappers' route. The investigation reveals that the victim was targeted and that his attackers meticulously planned their operation, even choosing an unmarked vehicle to avoid attracting attention.

The traces left at the scene, as well as the testimonies of residents who noticed suspicious comings and goings, reinforced the theory of an operation carried out by a structured group.

Law enforcement remains cautious about the motive. Several scenarios are being investigated: an extortion attempt related to the son's digital skills, a financial dispute that turned violent, or pre-existing tensions directly or indirectly involving the family.
