Agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested five men as suspected perpetrators of a robbery at a cryptocurrency company located in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The arrest occurred shortly after the crime, as the thieves were caught in the act by the company owner while gagging the building’s concierge.

The robbery took place on January 14 around 3:30 p.m. The thieves had devised a plan in which one of them pretended to be a client with a scheduled appointment to gain easy access to the offices. Meanwhile, the rest of the assailants entered the building armed with stun guns and zip ties, which they used to gag and tie the concierge’s hands and feet.

However, the woman resisted, causing a struggle that created a loud disturbance, alerting company workers who informed the director. When the director came out to check, he caught the thieves in the act while trying to restrain the concierge and immediately called the police.

The infiltrator trapped inside the offices

The thieves fled through the service stairs to the rooftop and reportedly jumped to a neighboring building. The fifth member, who had posed as the client, was trapped inside the offices with no way to escape. This man tried to leave through the main door but encountered the police. Initially, the officers did not suspect his involvement, but during a routine search, they found latex gloves on him and, due to inconsistencies in his statements, arrested him as a suspect in the robbery.

The first detainee also carried car keys and a parking ticket. Using this evidence, the police increased surveillance around the parking area where the thieves had their car and managed to detain the rest of the criminals when they returned to retrieve the vehicle.

The five men were arrested, charged with robbery with violence and intimidation, illegal detention, property damage, injuries, and threats. All have already been imprisoned.
