Second and third rounds on the dossier pipeline, reviewed locally before commit. Retrieval - wayback_pass.py: retries every BLOCKED/DEAD/THIN/ERROR linked source through the Wayback Machine; blocks carry the snapshot date, archive URL and the live verdict. 143 slots retried: 93 fetched, 37 no snapshot, 12 script shells, 1 PDF. - fetch_sources.py: fetch_wayback() helper. - add_extra_sources.py: files staged extra_* finds (web search, not on the DB record) into the store with a provenance note. - Cases re-sourced by web search: 248 (Oslo: Document.no, Avisa Oslo, NRK; the linked Le Parisien piece is case 242 and is marked OFF-CASE), 258 Kharkiv, 260 Singapore, 358 Bangkok, 365 Las Vegas, 388 Verneuil-sur-Seine, 390 Zoersel, 430 Homestead. 341 of 364 cases now hold a fetched article; 11, 66 and 399 have no public text source (podcast, police video, direct victim report). The Tuenti founder is yet to file a formal report at a police station.

Dentzel, 38, made Spain his home in the mid-2000s, when he decided to create a social network in Spain for young people called Tuenti, after having spent time as a student in the Extremadura region learning Spanish during his university years. His social network ended up counting on millions of users and was acquired by Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica in 2010 for €70 million. He stayed at the helm of the company after the sale. In 2016 the social network itself was closed and Tuenti remained as a telecommunications operator.

The Provincial Court of Madrid has sentenced the kidnappers of the founder of Tuenti to nine years in prison. The crime took place on November 2, 2021, when he was held and tortured in his Madrid apartment by a gang seeking to obtain 25 million euros in bitcoins from his digital wallet—though they failed to access the funds.

They sprayed his eyes with pepper spray, covered his mouth, put a hood over his head, cuffed his hands behind his back, threw him to the floor, and wrapped him in a carpet. The attackers then took him to the bedroom, covered surveillance cameras, and turned the TV to maximum volume so neighbors wouldn’t hear his calls for help.

A maintenance technician, who happened to be in the apartment installing heating and was not part of the criminals’ plan, was also attacked: struck in the face, pepper-sprayed, zip-tied, and hooded, then dragged to the service room and tied to a chair.

The assailants moved Dentzel to the bedroom, where they sat him on a chair, hooded and bound, threatening him with death unless he handed over his phone and tablet, which they knew could access his bitcoin wallet. They also threatened to dismember him, starting with his toes, unless he complied.

Dentzel gave up his phone, iPad, and the access code, but the criminals failed to access the wallet since a joint action with his manager was needed. They continued to threaten him, saying they would put him in a butcher’s van and take him to Toledo to be cut up over several days until they got the money.
